From one volcanic powerhouse to another! 🌋
Following our successful first exchange in Bandung last year, eight Indonesian experts just returned from a productive week in Kenya (4-8 August 2025). This visit was dedicated to enhanced energy cooperation through the 2nd Exchange of South South Triangular Cooperation between Kenya, Indonesia, and Germany.
Hosted by the Kenyan Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Geothermal Development Company (GDC), KenGen Kenya, and GIZ, the exchange served as a platform to share practices, expertise, challenges, and encourage co-creation from all participants.
Key takeaways of the 2nd Exchange are:
💡 Geothermal can coexist with the nature. Through dialogue and visitation at KenGen’s Olkaria Power Plan, Kenya is proving that energy infrastructure and national parks can thrive together.
💡 People are the core of the project. With the spirit of Leaving No One Behind, Kenya integrates discussion with local communities, to ensure they benefit from geothermal development.
💡From pilot to (green) businesses. Geothermal direct use in Kenya has growing to support flower industry and carbon capture and storage (CCS) start-up. Both businesses are driven by innovation from non-state actors in Kenyan geothermal sector.
💡 An inclusive transition is the only transition. A powerful session with Female Delegates of the SSTC Geothermal reinforced commitment from all participating countries to making the energy sector equitable for all, through open and transparent discussions.
This isn’t just about technology; it’s about building a future where renewable energy is both green and just. The collaboration continues!
