The Clean, Affordable and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia (CASE) project supports a shift in the power sector toward an evidence-based energy transition aligned with the Paris Agreement. By leveraging national research and strategic narratives on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable energy finance, CASE aims to drive a transformation toward clean, affordable, and secure energy systems across Southeast Asia
Background
Green hydrogen is needed for energy transitions and climate protection worldwide. However, developing countries often lack the knowledge and technologies required to develop and implement green hydrogen projects. To transition to a hydrogen-based economy, local companies and administrations need to have the necessary technical qualifications, and legal frameworks (including incentive mechanisms) must be developed.
Project Approach
PDP-H2 identifies industrial companies that use or produce grey (fossil) hydrogen and could switch to green hydrogen now with relatively little financing and remain competitive. It advises them on system design, financing models and how to cover funding gaps.
In addition to this targeted pre-development of potential projects, the project offers training and provides market information to inform local hydrogen customers and producers as well as project developers and technology providers about market opportunities.
Desired Impacts
The project thus contributes to the implementation of feasible hydrogen projects through project pre-development. It connects local companies with German and European solution providers that are registered in the German Energy Solutions Initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). Therefore, through networking, solution providers benefit by becoming aware of specific, feasible projects. This makes it easier for them to enter the market in developing countries and emerging economies. Meanwhile, local industries are supported in the process of implementing green hydrogen
