H2Uppp aims to identify, prepare and accompany the implementation of projects for the production and use of green hydrogen and power-to-X application, and to raise awareness and promote knowledge transfer for the development of projects relating to green hydrogen. Together with our partner countries, this approach will enable us to identify cost-effective production paths and uses , pinpoint project opportunities along the value chain and develop business models

Background

Green hydrogen is pivotal to the energy transition and climate protection. Nevertheless, the international green hydrogen market remains in its infancy. To facilitate its expansion, entrepreneurial commitment, expertise, and investment are key. But entering new markets is often associated with considerable effort and risk. H2Uppp therefore supports companies in identifying, preparing, and implementing projects for the production and use of green hydrogen – especially in countries of the Global South.

Project Approach

In field of action 1 (project identification), the program mobilizes companies in Germany and countries of the Global South to enter the green hydrogen market and identifies cooperation projects and business models. H2Uppp also conducts market analyses and networks project developers, technology providers and hydrogen customers.

In field of action 2 (project development), H2Uppp works with private companies to jointly implement replicable projects in the field of green hydrogen / Power-to-X. For this purpose, formalized partnerships are entered into within the framework of PPPs, the feasibility of which is first examined in an ideas competition. (see following section).

In field of action 3 (project flanking and trade), H2Uppp advises local partners in the target countries with high export potential and an interest in trading with Germany. Advice focuses on the further development of the market environment and the mitigation of regulatory, trade-related and socio-economic project risks.

Desired Impacts

BMWE helps meet future green hydrogen demand in Germany and Europe, while enabling valuable technology transfer.
