Events Surrounding the German-Indonesian Energy Cooperation
Indonesia has set a target to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2060, aligning with its commitment to a sustainable and low-carbon future. In this context, the German-Indonesian Energy Cooperation, built upon more than 30 years of bilateral energy cooperation, plays a crucial role in advancing shared interests to facilitate the energy transition. This partnership provides comprehensive support, including evidence-based policy recommendations, capacity development assistance, execution of studies, and collaboration with various partners, including ministerial and implementation bodies, to address the country’s energy challenges. Through these initiatives, the cooperation contributes significantly to Indonesia’s efforts toward a greener and more sustainable energy future.
The German-Indonesian Energy Cooperation is financed by two German ministries, the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany (BMWK), through its International Climate Initiative (IKI), making up “Team Germany”. On the Indonesian side, key partners include all implementing partners of financial and technical cooperation: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas and The Ministry of Finance.
